Our Günter Blobel Lecture Series continues on July 17, 2024 with the presentation of Prof. Dr. Cristina Paulino from the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center (BZH) about “Think like a channel, act like a carrier – The case of SLC9C1, a voltage-gated sperm-specific Na+/H+ exchanger” at 12:30 in the Biocenter (N100/0.15). The successful collaboration within CRC projects P12 and P17 led to an exciting publication in Nature about the determination of unknown molecular structures inside the central transport channel of the mammalian nuclear pore complex. Utilizing a combination of microscopy and molecular simulations, a dynamic protein network at the center of the pore is identified which acts as a flexible transport barrier selectively letting pass messengers and blocking pathogens. The CRC 1507 hosts an Early Career Group Leader Symposium on Thursday, March 30th, 2023 (10:00 am). This event gathers intriguing young scientists and is the start of the CRC‘s newly established Günter Blobel Lecture Series. The connection of Günter Blobel to the Institute of Biochemistry started during his studies of Medicine/Biochemistry in Frankfurt and was revived in 2002 during his honorary Rolf-Sammet Professorship at Goethe University.
