Type of data stored, purpose and legal basis, deletion periods

Handling of personal data
Personal data is information that can be used to determine a natural person,
ie information that identifies persons. This includes in particular names, e-mail
addresses, immatriculation numbers or telephone numbers. But also data about
preferences, hobbies, memberships or information about websites that have been
visited are personal data.
Personal data will only be collected, used and disclosed by us if legally permitted
or if the user has consented to the data collection.
The use of personal data of students for the purpose of study is based largely on
the applicable Hessian Higher Education Act in conjunction with the applicable
Enrollment Ordinance of the State of Hessen and thus refer to EU GDPR Article 6
Paragraph 1 c).
The data of the employees of the Goethe-University collected and processed for the
purposes of personnel administration, teaching, research and examination activities
are based on the Hessian Higher Education Act, the Enrollment Ordinance of the
State of Hesse, TV-GU, civil service law and personnel law regulations.

Access data / server logfiles

When accessing the pages of this web server, the following data is generally stored
in the server logfiles:
•    IP address
•    Date and time
•    Type of client browser
•    URL of the visited page
•    If necessary, the error message about the occurred error

•    If necessary, the requesting provider
These data are for the sole purpose of checking the functionality, safety and security
troubleshooting. This use is based on EU DSGVO Article 6 paragraph 1 f). All logfiles will be automatically deleted after 7 days at the latest.

Establishing contact

When contacting members of the Goethe University (for example by contact form or
email) your data will be stored for the purpose of processing the request as well as
in case of follow-up questions arise. After processing your request or after fulfilling
the legal obligation or the service being used, the data will be deleted unless the
retention of the data is required for the implementation of legitimate interests of the
Goethe University or on the basis of a legal regulation (e.g. law, legal decree,
statutes of Goethe University, etc.).
Cookies
Cookies are small-sized files allowing the storage of specific device-related information on your access device (PC, smartphone, etc.). It is the purpose of cookies to improve the user-friendliness of web pages (i.e. storage of login data). Most browsers have options to restrict or completely prevent the storage of cookies, however, this may lead to a limited use of the browser. To use login-secured pages, cookies are mandatory. They are used to determine the access authorization and are deleted once the session has ended.

Access-protected web pages and user-based services
In addition to the above information, and further to the authorization control of the data access, the user name or an identifier are collected. This data will be deleted or anonymised after max. 7 days, unless the storage of these data is necessary for the implementation of legitimate interests of the Goethe University or a legal provision (for example, law, legal decree, statutes of the Goethe University, etc.). For all services which do not fall under these specifications, explicit consent declarations are obtained. The deletion takes place depending on the specification of the service used. The deletion period is clearly defined in the processing activities directory. The legal basis is EU DSGVO Art. 6 (1a).

Integration of third-party services
Within some subpages of this online presence, third-party content from other web pages  (such as videos from YouTube, maps from Google Maps, RSS feeds, graphics, etc.) is incorporated. This always presupposes that the providers of these contents of other websites (hereinafter referred to as “third-party providers”) view your IP address. The IP address is required for the presentation of this content as third-party providers would not be able to send these contents to your browser without it. We aim to use providers who use IP addresses solely for the delivery of the content, however, the continued use of your data is beyond our control (i.e. if third-party providers store the IP address for statistical purposes).
